Learning at Home
As part of our commitment to fostering your child's learning and development, we have established some home learning expectations that will help reinforce what the children are learning in school.
We ask that you complete the following tasks each week:
1. Common Exception Spellings (Year 2-6) We encourage your child to practise their common exception spellings regularly. To do this, they should copy out the given sentences that include these words. This not only helps with spelling but also reinforces their understanding of how these words are used in context.
2. Reading We ask that you support your child by reading their school reading book together at least three times a week. After each reading session, please sign their reading record to indicate that it has been done. Additionally, we encourage you to supplement this reading with books from home or your local library. This exposure to a variety of texts helps develop their love of reading and comprehension skills. Please refer back to the reading letter shared earlier this year for more information.
3. Phonics (Reception, Year 1 and children who are developing phonic knowledge) Please support your child to practise and reinforce the phonemes and graphemes that they have been learning in school. The phonics home learning task includes opportunities to practise reading the focus phonemes, words and sentences with these phonemes and tricky words. Please then encourage your child to practise spelling the given words. This will begin after half term.
4. Times Tables (Year 2-6) For students in Year 2 and Key Stage 2, we recommend spending ten minutes a day on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS). This interactive platform helps your child master their times tables, which are essential for their ongoing maths learning.
Your involvement in your child's learning not only helps them to reinforce what they've learnt in class but also fosters a positive attitude towards learning. By engaging with their learning, you’re showing your child that their education is important, which boosts their motivation and confidence. Additionally, regular practice helps develop essential skills that will benefit them in their future learning. Learning will be sent home on a Friday and we kindly ask that it is returned by the following Wednesday.
Home learning club also runs every Monday lunchtime and we encourage any children who would like support with home learning to attend.
